Seal and Serpent Society

Becoming a Member

All new members of the Society are invited by the undergraduate members. To receive an invitation, an undergraduate student must exemplify our core values and show high character in all aspects of his life. He must show legitimate interest in advancing our Society's founding principles. The best way to demonstrate these traits is simply to meet the brothers and let us know you're interested.

Invitation

To be extended an invitation for membership, a Cornell student must get to know the current members of the Society. Once they've started forming positive relationships, they should express interest in membership.

Education

Once invited, a potential member must continue to develop relationships in the Society. They will learn our history and become more involved in house events. An undergraduate member will guide the potential members during this process.

Initiation

After learning our history and traditions, the potential members will undergo their ceremonial initiation week. Much of the week is dedicated to exciting events at the Lodge, being the culmination of the potential members' process. Full membership to the Society is then granted.

Membership

New members are welcomed into the Society as equals. No part of our process is dedicated to "tearing down" or hazing our new members. Rather than weeding out students, our goal is to build up a strong group of Cornellians that amounts to more than the sum of its individuals.
